Village women with 5-10 years of schooling and willing are trained to identify post neonatal sick children, to examine them and provide treatment for some common ailments in these areas such as acute respiratory infections (ARI), diarrhea and malaria. They are also trained to determine signs and causes of malnutrition. Initially trained for intervention of post-neonatal disease management, these women were subsequently trained to handle normal and high risk neonatal care, and further for the intervention of neonatal sepsis and birth asphyxia management and intensive health and nutrition education.
Regular check-ups are recommended every month for the first six months, then every two to three months until your baby turns one year old.
